Romans – Faces of an Empire
LOKSCHUPPEN / ROSENHEIM
Standing in the heart of the legendary Circus Maximus, reins in hand – and the race begins: a new, exciting interactive installation has been created for the Romans exhibition at the Lokschuppen Rosenheim, allowing visitors to immerse themselves directly in the world of ancient chariot racing.
Instead of just watching, they become part of the action themselves – as drivers of a Roman chariot competing against other teams.
The chariot is steered using leather reins that feel just like real horse reins. Visitors can get started straight away without any instruction: steer, collect golden apples with the chariot to accelerate, master the bends and, above all, avoid driving through puddles, as these slow the drivers down – and that’s not as easy as it sounds, but it’s great fun.
Four teams compete against each other in a detailed 3D arena. Players compete for Team Red and experience an intense race lasting around 2–3 minutes – including a personal ranking at the end.
The installation combines physical interaction with digital presentation, bringing history to life in a new way. Whether young or old – getting started is intuitive, and the competition is thrilling.
An immersive highlight of the exhibition that combines knowledge, play and emotion.
