Floating Fresco

S.t Korbinian Church / Munich

Old meets new: The monumental new baroque building of St. Korbinian’s Church houses the largest ceiling painting in Munich. The fresco by the artist Richard Holzner from 1951 shows miracles and scenes from the life of St. Korbinian in neo-baroque style. These paintings form the basis for the installation “Floating Fresco”. The individual scenes were photographed and animated in an artistic way using generative video technology. Slowly, the images build up through a video mapping to the left and right of the age and change continuously. The installation illuminates the services in the Munich church on Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day and invites reflection, peace and meditation.
