Temporary Exhibition: “Oskar Schindler – Bon vivant and lifesaver”

SUDETENDEUTSCHES MUSEUM / MUNICH

Temporary Exhibition: „Oskar Schindler – Bon vivant and lifesaver“

“Whoever saves just one life saves the whole world.” This Talmudic saying, engraved on the ring Oskar Schindler received from the rescued Jews, symbolizes the significance of his actions.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Oskar Schindler’s death, the Sudeten German Museum is organizing a special exhibition that highlights his rescue operation. This temporary exhibition explores the eventful life of a man who symbolized humanity and courage in dark times, showcasing his charisma and complex character. It offers a compelling narrative about his actions and the impact he made during a tumultuous period.

WE ARE VIDEO was commissioned to create animations of the famous lists at the exhibition’s center for the Bolzano agency Gruppe Gut. An authentic typeface based on the original typewriter was developed with great precision.

Particularly noteworthy is the focus on Emilie Schindler, a theme already explored in the opera “Frau Schindler” at the Gärtnerplatztheater.

A highlight of the exhibition will be the presence of Regina Pemper as guest of honor on the last day. Her uncle Mietek Pemper, one of the rescued “Schindler Jews,” experienced Schindler’s story firsthand and played a key role in compiling the famous list, a topic that will be explored in greater depth.

The exhibition features rarely shown original documents and haunting reports from survivors, offering a profound examination of a significant historical period that remains relevant today.

The exhibition runs from 7 June to 27 October 2024.
Venue: Adalbert Stifter Hall, Sudeten German House, Hochstraße 8.
Admission is free.

An impressive exhibition that is both historically interesting and emotionally moving.
