WE ARE VIDEO stages “The Stack” with impressive crane lighting and video projections

In collaboration with the Munich Art District (MAD) and the project company of The Stack, the Munich-based creative studio WE ARE VIDEO has realised an extraordinary light installation. As part of The Stack construction project, the construction crane and the building site at Munich Central Station were spectacularly illuminated.

Instead of static LED strips or single-colour lighting, WE ARE VIDEO developed a dynamic lighting concept that integrates the crane into the construction site landscape as a living, interactive element. The additional light staging with the help of video projections creates an atmospheric connection between the construction site and the urban space and makes the transformation of the neighbourhood a visual experience.

Theatre experience meets architecture

The staging of ‘The Stack’ stands out thanks to dramaturgical lighting moods that make targeted use of movement, colour and structure – an approach based on WE ARE VIDEO’s many years of experience in theatre and stage lighting. The result is an immersive work of light art that unfolds a new effect depending on the perspective and distance and fascinates passers-by and art lovers alike.

Technical challenge at lofty heights

The installation of several floodlights and spotlights on the construction crane was a tour de force that WE ARE VIDEO realised together with a professional rigger partnership. The lighting installation was controlled from a building opposite in order to create precise lighting compositions and effects that emphasised the architecture of the construction site.

An urban work of light art

Such detailed and theatrically staged construction site lighting is an absolute rarity. WE ARE VIDEO has transformed ‘The Stack’ into a unique urban work of light art and this project once again demonstrates its close links with Munich’s art and culture scene – including through its collaboration with the Munich Art District.

Second production of this kind

WE ARE VIDEO realised the Christmas light installation ‘Singerhaus Illuminata’ at the historic Singerhaus for the AIM MUNICH project company back in December 2024.

Each window of the building was individually illuminated, so that colourful changing light moods gave the impression that the windows were dancing. This dynamic staging lent the building a unique festive atmosphere and attracted numerous visitors.
